I had a friend who had a new puppy from the time she got it. She said that it was just a puppy that was very spooked by the house and all the new stuff. I asked her if she had tried to train it and she said she had. She said that she had used a lot of positive reinforcement (like a reward every time she let the puppy outside), and that she was surprised how fast she could get the puppy back to normal.
This is pretty much what I did with my own dog. I fed him treats with a smile on my face every time I let him out and I got a smile back as soon as he was back inside. If I didn’t, I knew that I had lost him. You may be surprised at how much you can train your dog to like your household.
My first dog was a Maltese named Taz. I got him from my grandparents because they were going to be getting a new home and he was just the dog for the job.
